The powerful core features of opsi can be extended through extensions and with them customized to specific application scenarios.
To test the opsi extensions we will gladly provide a temporary licensed file. Please contact info@uib.de.
Avoid data maintenance on multiple systems and transfer data from your directory service directly into your management tool. This prevents the need for additional maintenance and ensures data consistency. It is irrelevant whether your LDAP is an Active Directory or a Samba 4 domain.
Management of Linux clients. With this extension, the number of starts of the opsi script interpreter for the opsi managed Linux clients is not limited. This enables an unlimited use of opsi in heterogeneous environments.
The new client can take care of unattended installations of .app directories, .dmg, .pkg and .zip files under macOS. The patch management initiates a connection of the Macs to the Apple servers and regulates the download and installation of existing updates. There is also the option to write scripts for updating third-party applications. Also, the configuration of the software runs automated. The opsi script interpreter can process and deliver quite different formats of setup files, including XML, JSON, .ini, or key-value files.
The developers have also ported the two tools hwaudit and swaudit for inventorying hardware and software. Both tools now work cross-platform, detect the operating system, collect information and transmit it to the opsi server.

The administration of licenses for software products is a complex and extensive task in companies. This can be unified and simplified with the opsi license management.
The main features are:
Is it possible to restore a complete classroom during your break? With the Local Image extension it is more than possible. Originally developed to be used in schools, this expansion has been successfully applied also outside of the classroom. An image from the installation of a client is created and stored on a separate partition on the local hard disk. This image is deployed later for recovery. Both of them are managed centrally by the administrator. This makes it possible to quickly restore a large number of clients without a extensive network load.
The fast track to performance enhancement. The configuration data of the Clients are stored centrally in opsi. Per default the stored data is file based. The use of a relational database speeds up the access to this data. Particularly for installations with more than 300 clients or distributed environments, the client login and the work with the management interface is considerably speed up.
The transition from a file based backend to MySQL backend is supported with special tools and can be performed easily any time.
Easily integrate opsi into your existing monitoring solution.
Now you can react quickly to unpredictable events. Whether a failed installation on a client or an outdated product stands on one of your servers, the monitoring connector delivers the data to your monitoring system.
Checkups on clients are possible without additional software since the opsi client agent is already installed on the clients. The execution of the checks can take place via the opsi server, which is why no connection is needed between the monitoring server and the clients (indirect checks).
Designed as a Nagios interface, the integration is also compatible with suitable solutions, e.g. Icinga.
In large installations with a multitude of clients, many locations or heavy peak load due to simultaneous devices starting, the central opsi service can become a bottleneck. By default the opsi service uses only one CPU core.
The extension Scalability offers the possibility to start the opsi service with multiple worker processes. Thus all available CPU cores can be used. Furthermore it's possible to run the opsi service on several servers in parallel. Besides the further scalability there is then also the possibility of a failover. Scalability makes it possible to operate environments with some ten thousand clients or many locations. Depending on the usage of the system (e.g.: mass rollouts) this module can be useful even for smaller installations.
With opsi 4.2 the Scalability module Final was released. It replaces the predecessor Scalability 1. All customers who bought Scalability 1 will automatically get the new Scalability module. Prerequisite is a migration to opsi 4.2.

With small effort, BIOS and UEFI can be managed side by side with one solution. Decide which clients should benefit from the new features of UEFI. UEFI has been replacing BIOS as firmware for quite some time and has brought numerous innovations.
UEFI relies on GPT. GPT enables the management of hard disks with more than 2TB of storage capacity.
Should Administrators be able to see only clients belonging to selected depot servers? Should they have access to specific client groups but still have no access to the global server administration? If the extension "User Roles" is activated, the client or product visibility in the management interface can be configured specifically for all these aspects and optionally the editing of global settings can be prevented. A read-only access, for example for the HelpDesk, can also be established.
The management of out of the office or home office clients doesn't have to be a problem.
An intelligent caching mechanism ensures that even remote clients can be up to date without affecting the user. The connection to the opsi server doesn't have to be maintained permanently.
The administrator has control over the computer, and the results are reported back to the opsi server at a proper time. This extension is also recommended for unstable network connections.
The complete installation of a Windows system takes a long time due to the huge number of hotfixes and software being installed.
WIM-capture gives you the possibility to capture an existing system, with all hotfixes and software installed, into a Microsoft WIM (Windows Imaging Format). This WIM can be used to install a new system including all captured hotfixes and software. Using WIM here, the installation is done by the original Microsoft setup progamm, just as being installed from the original Windows DVD
The duration of a reinstallation is thus considerably reduced. WIM-capture has initially a cost, according to our co-financing model. For "small" opsi installations with less than 250 clients we offer a reduced price.
Secureboot makes it possible that only signed operating systems are started when a computer is booted.
