Extensions of opsi

The powerful core features from opsi, can be increased even more and also customized under the most very different application scenarios

Directory Connector

Avoid data maintenance on multiple systems and transfer data from your directory service directly into your management tool. This prevents the need for additional maintenance and ensures data consistency. It is irrelevant whether your LDAP is an Active Directory or a Samba 4 domain.

Linux Agent

Management of Linux clients. With this extension, the limitation on the number of starts of the opsi script interpreter for the opsi managed Linux clients is not applicable. This enables an unlimited use of opsi in heterogeneous environments.

License management

The administration of licenses for software products is a complex and extensive task in companies. This can be unified and simplify with opsi license management.

The main features are:

  • The License Management uses the same management interface as software deployment and OS installation: the opsi Configuration Editor.
  • License keys can be automatically allocated, assigned and reserved.
  • Availability of license models: single license, volume license, license bound to a specific host and licenses to which the number of concurrent usages is regulated by a server.
  • Automated release of license keys when uninstalling software.
  • Manual processing of allocated licenses e.g. for software that is not deployed with opsi.
  • Report function to match the opsi managed license allocations with installations determined by the software inventory.

Local Image

Is it possible to restore a complete classroom during your break? With the Local Image extension is more than possible. Originally developed to be used in schools, this expansion has been successfully applied also outside of the classroom. In this case, an image from the installation of a client is created and stored on a separate partition on the local hard disk. This image is deployed later for recovery. Both of them are managed centrally by the administrator. This makes it possible to quickly restore a large number of clients without a extensive network load.

MySQL Backend

The quick way to performance enhancement. The configuration data of the Clients are in opsi centrally stored. Per default the stored data is file based. The use of a relational database speeds up the access to this data. Particularly for installations with more than 300 clients or distributed environments, the client login and the work with the management interface is considerably speed up.

The transition from file backend to MySQL backend is supported with special tools and can be performed at ease any time.

Monitoring Connector

Easily integrate opsi into your existing monitoring solution.

Now you can react quickly to unpredictable events. Whether a failed installation on a client or an outdated product stands on one of your servers, the monitoring connector delivers the data to your monitoring system.

Checkups on clients are possible without additional software since the opsi client agent is already installed on the clients. The checkups can be executed via the opsi server, which means that there must be no connection between monitoring servers and clients (indirect checks).

Designed as a Nagios interface, the integration is also compatible with suitable solutions, e.g. Icinga.

Scalability 1

Don't let that a high load on the opsi server, due to thousands of concurrent accesses become a problem.

Through a horizontal Scaling you are always able to have a quick access. Individual machines are relieved and can react faster to client requests.

UEFI / GPT support

With small effort, BIOS and UEFI can be managed side by side with one solution. Decide which clients should benefit from the new features of UEFI. UEFI has been replacing BIOS as firmware for quite some time and has brought numerous innovations.

UEFI relies on GPT. GPT enables the management of hard disks with more than 2TB of storage capacity.

User Roles

Should administrators, on separated depot servers, be able to see data and interact only with their own environment?
Should they have access to the management interface but still have no access to global server administration?
If the extension "User Roles" is activated the client visibility can be configured specifically per depot and the editing of global settings can be prevented. A pure read only access e.g. for the Help Desk can be established as well.

WAN Extension

The management of out of the office or home office clients doesn't have to be a problem.

An intelligent caching mechanism ensures that even remote clients can be up to date without affecting the user. The connection to the opsi server doesn't have to be permanently maintained.

The administrator has control over the computer, and the results are reported back to the opsi server at a proper time. This extension is also recommended for unstable network connections.
