opsi Version 3.4 released (1.9.2009)
- Management of software licenses, which isn't free yet (you have to pay 1 000 € once)
- Enhanced Management interface with context menu support
- Enhanced preloginloader 3.4 with two alternative modes:
- 'opsiclientd' which supports Vista and Windows 7, and have some more new features but isn't free yet (you have to pay 2 000 € once)
- 'prelogin' which is the well known and free preloginloader 3.3 technology
- Activation file to protect non free parts of opsi Even opsi is open source, there are some components which are not free at the moment. These components are developed in a co-funding project which means that until the complete development costs are payed by co-funders, they are only allowed to use by the co-funders or for evaluation purposes. If we have earned the development cost we will give these modules for everybody for free. To control the use of these components until they are free there is a activation file /etc/opsi/modules, which is protected against changes via electronic signature. If this activation file doesn't exist, only the free parts of opsi will work.
- Enhanced opsi-winst installation shell
- New Manuals
- New virtual machine and installation packages
- deploy software to opsi clients that are conncted via slow WAN and/or via VPN
- install small packages (e g. a hotfix) on the fly
- install large packages (e.g. office) by at first downloading the packet. This download runs in the background, uses only part of the available bandwith and may be interrupted. After the download is complete, the installation starts from the 'local repository'.
- administer your license contracts
- get license pools out of these contracts, which can be used by the automatic software distribution
- get reports about how many licenses you bought, how many are used according to the software distribution and how many are used according to the software inventory
- the OS-Installation had to be modified.
- the preloginloader and opsi-loginblocker had to be rewritten completely.
If you need for evaluation a temporary valid activation file please contact info@uib.de.

opsi Version 3.3.1 released
The opsi maintainer 'uib gmbh' focused with this release on the product maintenance. New features are the support of USB and HD-Audio drivers for the simplified driver integration and an improved support for the Windows Vista / 2008 family. Also with this release opsi now is ready for Windows 7.
The new developed client agent “opsi-preloginloader 3.4” introduces a completely redesigned architecture. It supports installations at boot time as well as event driven activation and pushed installations. This is the base technology for further enhancements like support for clients which are solely connected via WAN / VPN. This new feature is currently under development.

cooperative funding project: opsi via WAN / VPN
Dear opsi users,
after the good experience wit the 'cofunding' project for the Vista support, we started a third one:
a module for opsi via WAN / VPN
With this module you will be able to:
We will sell these development costs in chunks of 2 000 Euros.
The development should be completed at early May.
Until the funding is complete, this software is only available for the 'cooperative funders'.
After that, this software will be released as open source.
At the moment (February 2009) we've got 2 000 Euros, which is about 8 % of the funding.
We hope that we could interest you in joining this project.
If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask us here at the free support forum or at info@uib.de

cooperative funding project: opsi support for Vista / 2008
Dear opsi users,
since September 2008 there is support for Vista / 2008 clients available with opsi.
According to the big changes made by Microsoft it was a lot of work for us to do:
All our software is open source.
New major features and enhancements (as the Vista support is) become open source once the development is financed.
Most of the opsi enhancements are funded by customers and then become available to the open source community.
30 000 Euros for financing the Vista support is too much for a single customer, but funded by 15 customers
it may be a valuable and convenient investment of 2 000 Euros each.
So we decided to sell the development cost in chunks of min. 2 000 Euros until the funding is complete. Up to this point, the opsi Vista support
is available only to the 'cooperative funders'.
Once the development is funded completely, this software will be released as open source.
At the moment (February 09) we've got 16 000 Euros, which is more than half of the required funding sum.
We hope that we could interest you in joining this project.
