uib gmbh announces opsi 4.0.5 as stable
Installation and management of Linux clients
System administrators that have been applying opsi to administrate Windows clients, are now able with the new version to also install and administrate Linux clients with opsi with the cofunding-project "Linux-Agent".
The focus behind the new opsi Linux support is to integrate both worlds (Windows and Linux) into the same management processes and tools.
Current PCs, tablets and servers usually boot per UEFI, which is the successor of the classic BIOS. To support the automated operating system installation for these up-to-date UEFI devices per netboot and to use advantages take advantage of the UEFI specification, uib gmbh has developed the opsi extension “UEFI support”.
Image backup for quick restore on classroms clients
Usually PCs in classrooms often have to be restored to a clean initial state within a short period of time. With the opsi extension "Local-Image" a package based installation is saved as an image backup on a second local partition, so that a quick restore is available (currently available for public administrations only).
opsi 4.0.5 also comes with several new features, that are available free of charge with the opsi kernel:
- Images with opsi clonezilla
- opsi-setup-detector (wizard to generate new opsi packages)
- opsi-configed with better performance
